L: We haven’t been in a dust storm yet.
Me, not looking up: Don’t mention it. Don’t want to be jinxed.
A few miles later…
L: Shoot, it’s coming right at us.
L: The dust storm.
L: Right there, like I showed you earlier.
Road warning signs are flashing ‘Dust Warning’ ‘Limited Visibility’
Earl is being buffeted with big wind gusts. We say a quick prayer for safe travel.
I-10 suddenly makes a change and veers north, and we magically skirt the dust storm! “Thank you, Lord” we both say out loud as the monster rumbles across the Interstate behind us.
Not over yet. It is now apparent to us that dust storms are a common occurrence on this stretch of road. Several times over 275 miles, big bright road signs of USE EXTREME CAUTION and ZERO VISIBILITY CONDITIONS POSSIBLE call out the anxiety in us. Multiple times, huge tornado-like clouds of dust come swirling towards us. We have seen, by far, the biggest whirling dervishes ever. Fountains of uprising cones moving earth from one place to another. They then spin off these fast moving clouds of silt that seem to aim at the vehicles on the road.
Somehow (Hint: The Grace of God), we keep skirting them within seconds, even speeding up if we have to. Dragging Nacho behind us.
ZERO VISIBILITY CONDITIONS POSSIBLE. It’s true. We cannot ever really know exactly how the future ahead is going to look. We can speculate or assume, or even worry. But we cannot really know until we are in the moment. As long as we let go and let God. Prayer, Faith, more Prayer and then acceptance. We continue on in our Path, whatever it may be, without visibility of the future. Let The Light show us what conditions are possible.
