Me: Yah? What will you be doing?
He: I’m going to work at a youth suicide prevention program.
It was only a few minutes of interaction, yet I learned that he lost a friend in high school to suicide and he’s compelled to reach out to young people .He’s also recertifying for an EMT License in this state so he can “Save lives”: as well. I feel that he is another example of Hope Rising.
Briefly I share that I once directed a Suicide Crisis Hotline at a college. I tell him that we are embarking on a humanitarian mission. This twenty-something agrees that we have the same mindset. We need to give attention and love to the World. Paths of kindred spirits have crossed.
Moments later, he comes by my table. I read his name tag.” Paul, may I keep you in my prayers?” He reaches out for both my hands and looks at me with those intense golden brown eyes. “Yes, please, Beautiful Lady”.
He goes back to bussing across the room. The background music in the restaurant starts playing, The Fray’s “How ‘I saved a Life Today’. A timely and fitting song for his future path.
